dannyIn theatre this week, Danny the Champion of the Worldstarted at the Promusica Theatre in Johannesburg last week. This favourite from Roald Dahl will draw a lot of attention, and is perfect for children and adults. Elections and Erections, starring Pieter Dirk Uys’ alter ego Evita Bezuidenhout, also started at the Joburg Civic Theatre, and will show until 15 March. Both Dancing Queen and The Rock Circusstart at their respective Barnyard Theatres in Gauteng. Alles op ‘n Stokis the Oude Libertas Amphitheatre’s production from 11 – 14 March: this is a magical musical performance that will leave you speechless. Tree Boy starts at the Playhouse Theatre in Durban, and The Looney Lahnee Show also begins at the Catalina Theatre, also in Durban. Houtkruis The Musical begins in Cape Town, and Mr South Africa takes place over the weekend!

The Afrikaans Music Festival is still taking place at Carnival City: this weekend you can catch Sarah Theron and many other performers. Chris Chameleon‘s last show at the Centurion Theatre is on 11 March, and Voice of Destruction, as part of their nationwide tour, will play at Burn Nightclub in Durban. Down To Earthais ideal for those who are fans of Eartha Kitt’s music: this show takes place at the Rhumbelow Theatre. The Last Night of the Proms takes place in Cape Town.

Convergence Training  and Consulting is offering a seminar in Management and Leadership Development, Astrotech is offering a course in Risk Management, and Maurice Kerrigan and IIR Training are also offering several courses. Check the site for more. There is also a talk about gardening with succulentsat the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. There is a Spider and Butterfly Weekend in the North West Province,

If you’re particularly interested in Food and Wine this week, Samp & Souffle at Paul Cluver Winesis offering an event where you may choose your own produce from the garden and cook it under the watchful eye of award-winning Chef Craig Cormack, a member of Chaine des Rotisseurs. This event takes place on 11 March in Grabouw. There is also a themed tasting eventtaking place at Steenberg Vineyards.

The Working World Extravaganza Careers Exhibition takes place in Port Elizabeth, while Limpopo is host to the Eding International Science Festival from 12 – 17 March. There is the Decorex in Durban over the weekend, while the Serengeti Festival of Good Livingis taking place in Gauteng. The Opportunities Australia Expotakes place, as well as Montecasino’s St Patrick’s Day Festival and the Hostex, all in Johannesburg. The Gardenex takes place in Cape Town.

For something different, do some stargazing in Maropeng, or catch the Radio Pretoria Music Festival in Limpopo. There is also a performance saturnby the Lipizzaners over the weekend in Johannesburg, or a Vintage Baynesfield Hobbies Fair in KwaZulu-Natal.

There is plenty of sports action during this week as well, including the Super 14, Vodacom Cup rugby, adventure races and more. There is also the superbike championship, which takes place in Kyalami.
