Catch the next Old Mutual Encounters concert!

Presented  at Emmarentia Dam at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens, Jacaranda 94.2 has brought the concert to audiences who would like to hear some of the best musicians in South Africa perform in a relaxed and refreshing environment.

This weekend’s concert, on 4 April, is excited to have Freshlyground perform, along with class acts Cassette, Hot Water, and many more.

Jacaranda 94.2’s involvement with the Old Mutual Encounters Concerts can besummed up by talking about the station’s commitment to bringing more music to its listeners. This initiative has been dubbed Jacaranda 94.2 Longplay, and is aimed at bringing more music, more often.

The emphasis has been on promoting music, particularly that of local artists. According to the station’s Marketing Manager Lulu Ndevu, the station’s involvement in the Concerts is a great addition to this initiative.

Old Mutual is proud to invest in the development of arts and culture in South Africa, and in the lifestyle of its current and potential customers. Bandile Mngoma, Old Mutual Sponsorship Consultant, says the Encounters provide a tranquil environment in which families can interact with each other and with friends. It is an outing that involves the whoe family.

One of the headline acts for this weekend’s show, Freshlyground, is one of South Africa’s most celebrated acts. It offers a blend of harmonic compositions and sweet melodies that incorporate a bit of jazz, blues, folk  and traditional African music. Their innovative style is an unforgettable experience, and lead singer Zolani Mahola’s stage presence and vocal performance will take your breath away.

Cassette won the award for Best Rock Album in the 2007 South African Music Awards, and this incredible rock band boasts timeless tunes and a dynamite stage performance. Cassette has been a support act for such amazing international acts as Pink, Evanescence and Eagle Eye Cherry, and they will definitely get music lovers up and dancing to their tunes.

Hot Water on the other hand is an Afro fusion band whoconsists of five dynamic musicians, and whose sound varies from Hopping Blues to Modern Folk Ballads. The band, based in Cape Town, was formed in 2005 under the leadership of Donovan Copely, and it has risen quickly in popularity with South African listeners, as their performance is vibrant and captivating.

The Encounters concert this weekend certainly offers listeners an engaging mix of authentic songs that will leave a happy stain in their memories for quite some time! Pack a picnic basket, bring the whole family, and jam with the rest of Johannesburg to original and amazing  South African acts!
