The Lyric Theatre brings another Last Laugh show!

August 14, 2009

The Lyric Theatre’s last comedy evening wasn’t the last laugh after all! Last Laugh at The Lyric in May this year was so successful that the theatre has invited some of the country’s funniest comedians to take stage once again, for two side-splitting evenings of entertainment and laughter.

The showwill be held in September, and features four of the best-known professional comedians in South Africa: John Vlismas; Darren Maule; Joey Rasdien; and Kagiso Lediga.

John Vlismas is the headline act for this show, and he actually needs no introduction! He is the winner of several awards, and is one of the country’s most prolific international comedians. He has entertained in London, Berlin, Dubai and Toronto, and has a manic stand-up routine that is a combination of smart political humour, punchy one-liners and physical comedy. He is a favourite in South Africa, and has joined much local success with his previous one-man shows, all of which he wrote, directed and produced.

Darren Maule is also a South African comedian, and is also an actor, best known for his role as Grant Fletcher on the SABC3 drama series Hard Copy. He specialised in physical comedy for 10 years, and shifted his focus to stand-up, where, in only a few years, he has established himself as a top South African comedian.

Joey Rasdien is an icon of comedy in the country, appearing on such shows as Comedy Showcase, Jerry Springer’s Saturday Night and The Phat Joe Show, as well as in advertisements for Cell C, KFC and The ICC Cricket World Cup. He is no stranger to stand-up comedy, having cut his teeth at comedy clubs across Johannesburg.

Last but certainly not least, Kagiso Lediga ventured into comedy while studying at the University of Cape Town 10 years ago. He is now recognised as one of the country’s best comedians, having performed at all the major comedy events on the local calendar. He also won the People’s Choice Award at the Cape Town International Comedy Festival.

Tickets for the show, priced from R90 per person, are available from Computicket or at The Lyric Theatre on 011 248 5000. Please note that no under 16’s are allowed. For more information, click here.
