Destinations ExpoThe new Destinations Expo taking place in Cape Town is the perfect platform to promote and boost tourism businesses.

The short-haul and domestic tourism markets in South Africa are both lucrative and valuable, and so must be nurtured and developed. They are good foundations for the tourism industry, since South Africa cannot rely solely on international markets, particularly with the global recession taking the effect that it has. In terms of domestic tourism, 14 million South Africans travelled within the country in 2008 – this is a whole million more than in 2007.

The inaugural Destinations Expo aims to promote African and South African destinations to the local market, as this is key to sustainable tourism growth.

Cape Town Tourism is also using the expo as a platform to engage with visiting trade to encourage them to explore the iconic lifestyle Capital of Africa, thus enabling them to enthusiastically promote the city to their various markets. Consumers visiting the show can treat themselves to elements of the 2010 Soccer World Cup countdown and citizen activation campaign “Live It! Love It! Louder!” The campaign stimulates citizen pride and a welcoming spirit among Capetonians, who must prepare to welcome the world in 2010.
