Skip to content offering student artists a career-launching platform!

April 15, 2010

You might discover the next Mustafa Maluka or Willie Bester by logging on to, a new web-based company that is offering graduate and student art at affordable prices. is based in Cape Town, and, according to Jennifer Reynolds, founder, “We’re aiming at people who wouldn’t normally go into an art gallery”. The new company aims to sell the best artwork created by students and recent graduates over the internet.

Jennifer says, “My website gives students and recent graduates a platform from which to launch their careers. Very few students get represented by a gallery when they leave university or art college – they’re producing good work, some of which gets sold at graduate exhibitions, but then they can’t find anywhere to show it. My website is somewhere you can go year-round to buy unique contemporary art much easier than a gallery”.

The site covers universities and colleges throughout the country, and currently features 10 artists. More are being recruited, as the competition is quite harsh – as Jennifer says, “If it doesn’t sell, it won’t stay on the site”.

Visitors to the site have the option of browsing by genre, artist, price or university/college, and can also have the art delivered to their door. Prices start from as little as R160, so owning a piece or becoming a collector of original artwork by future South African greats is now simple!

Fine Art students and graduates can also join the site to exhibit their work, and launch their careers in the process! Talented untrained artists also have the benefit of SOTA Selective, which allows them to benefit from the company’s marketing services.
