Franschhoek Literary Festival is a slamming success!

The team behind the Franschhoek Literary Festival is absolutely pleased that so many readers and writers from around the country attended to celebrate books over the weekend of 14 to 16 May 2010. Although the event began a little wet, the sun shone, the venues were full, the authors were in fine voice, deep conversations ended in laughter, and the word ruled for three days in the popular Winelands village.

More than 4 500 tickets were sold over the course of the weekend, and of the 42 events on the programme, 16 were sold out.

According to Susan Huxter of Le Quartier Francais, “The village certainly comes alive and the calibre of people who come along is fantastic”.

The revenue from ticket sales goes to FLF Library Fund, which aims to create and sustain a reading culture within the Franschhoek valley.

Author Deon Meyer said that he had a wonderful time at the festival, and it was an honour to be part of it all. He added, “It remains my firm favourite, and I’ve attended a few”.

The next Festival is planned for the third weekend of May in 2011.
