Big Blue wants SA’s coolest T-shirt designers to show off their talent

September 17, 2010

Big Blue is on the hunt for SA’s coolest young T-shirt designers.  The clothing company, known for showcasing some of the best local design talent in the country, is holding its fifth annual Makhulu Polane T-shirt design competition, which attracts hundreds of up-and-coming designers, inviting them to flaunt their creative design skills.

The competition was started in 2006 as a way of supporting young design talent across the country.  This year’s design theme is ‘Propaganda’ and judges will be on the lookout for designs that capture this powerful theme with a strong local flavour.

Entries are open to absolutely anyone who feels they can produce an original t-shirt design.  This year Big Blue will showcase the top 50 designs for one week and invite the public to vote for their best designs. The ‘people’s choice’ winning design will earn the designer R5000, while the grand winner will be selected by Big Blue and will pocket R20 000.

The winning t-shirt will also be sold in all Big Blue and Kitsch+Kool stores nationwide for a selected period of time.

Last year’s winning design for the ‘Love Africa’ themed competition was titled ‘Boy with a Wheel’ by Thandeka Bobani.

While designs do not need to be digitally created, they do need to be submitted via the Big Blue website www.bigblue.co.za.  Illustrations can be scanned and uploaded. Competition entries close on 1 October 2010.
